DP Energy and SBM Collaborate on Nova Scotia Floating Wind Farm Project

Irish renewables developer DP Energy and Dutch oil and gas services provider SBM Offshore have joined forces to establish a joint venture called Nova East Wind. The collaboration aims to construct a floating wind farm off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada, aligning with the province's target to meet 80% of its power requirements from renewable sources by 2030.

The planned floating wind farm, situated 20 to 30km offshore the town of Goldboro, is projected to have a power generating capacity ranging from 300MW to 400MW. The project team, established in 2021, has been actively engaging with local stakeholders, including First Nations, government bodies, industry regulators, commercial fishers, communities, and environmental groups, to ensure alignment with best practices in environmental, regulatory, supply chain, workforce, and construction aspects.

The exact location of the wind farm will be determined after regulatory assessments and further consultations with stakeholders. DP Energy and SBM Offshore envision this project as a significant step towards decarbonizing the local electricity grid, thereby supporting Nova Scotia's renewable energy goal.

Simon De Pietro, CEO of DP Energy, emphasized the significance of local engagement, stating that community involvement will remain integral to the project's development.
