Fred. Olsen Windcarrier to Install Monopiles for 640 MW Offshore Wind Farm in Taiwan
Fred. Olsen Windcarrier (FOWIC), a specialist in offshore wind installation services, has secured a contract in collaboration with Shimizu for the transportation and installation of monopile foundations at the 640 MW Yunlin offshore wind farm located off the central west coast of Taiwan.
Upon its full completion, the Yunlin offshore wind farm, owned by Yunneng Wind Power, will boast 80 wind turbines with a capacity of 8 MW each.
FOWIC is scheduled to commence operations in February 2024, and the project is anticipated to span approximately 200 days in total.
The installation process will leverage the jack-up vessel "Blue Wind," which is currently engaged in the Ishikari Bay New Port Offshore Wind Farm project, one of Japan's largest commercial offshore wind farms, featuring 8 MW turbines across 14 installations. The vessel will initiate preparations for the Yunlin offshore wind farm project in December 2023.
Once fully operational, the Yunlin offshore wind farm is projected to generate sufficient electricity to power the equivalent of over 600,000 Taiwanese households, marking a significant contribution to Taiwan's renewable energy landscape.
