Mainstream and Ocean Winds Collaborate on 500MW Floating Offshore Wind Project in Scotland
Renewable energy firms Mainstream Renewable Power and Ocean Winds have joined forces to develop a 500 MW floating offshore wind project situated to the east of the Shetland Islands in Scotland. This collaboration expands the total capacity of the Arven Offshore Wind Farm to 2.3 GW. The Arven project encompasses two separate sites: a 1.8 GW site located east of the Shetland Islands, and an additional 500 MW site awarded to Ocean Winds in the same vicinity.
Mainstream has successfully acquired a 50% shareholding in Ocean Wind's holding company, facilitating a combined approach to developing these two sites, aiming to fully maximize their potential benefits.
Beyond this partnership, Mainstream and Ocean Winds are jointly engaged in other offshore wind endeavors. They are presently collaborating on a 1.2 GW floating offshore wind farm project in South Korea and participating as part of a consortium for Norway's upcoming Utsira Nord floating offshore wind tender.
The overarching goal of this partnership is to make substantial contributions to Scotland's and the UK's net-zero goals while concurrently generating opportunities for supply chain expansion and job creation within the local region. The project's early-stage local engagement initiatives have already commenced, involving consultations with supply chain partners, local authorities, and representatives from the fisheries industry.
