Cyan Renewables, a Singapore-based offshore wind vessel company, announced its acquisition of the Service Operation Vessel (SOV) Groenewind from DEME Offshore NL. The deal, finalized for an undisclosed amount, marks Cyan Renewables' first vessel acquisition.
The Groenewind is a cutting-edge SWATH (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) vessel specially designed for servicing offshore wind farms. Its hull is optimized for safe transfers of service technicians to wind turbines in all weather conditions, even in significant wave heights exceeding 3 meters—a remarkable feat for a vessel of its size. The SOV can comfortably accommodate 24 service technicians in spacious single cabins and offers large, modern lounge areas for social interaction among the technicians and vessel crew.
During its initial years of operation, the Groenewind set new standards for service technician transfers, demonstrating exceptional capability in challenging weather conditions. Its design also ensures reduced maintenance, construction, and fuel costs, promoting sustainability in operations. Cyan Renewables has acquired the vessel design intellectual property rights, enabling the construction of future vessels with the same advanced design.
With this strategic acquisition, Cyan Renewables aims to strengthen its service capabilities and expand its offerings to clients globally. Over the next 15 years, the company will operate the Groenewind in collaboration with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) to support the maintenance of three offshore wind farms in Belgium. These wind farms collectively generate sustainable energy to power around 800,000 homes in Belgium annually. Cyan Renewables will manage the vessel from its European headquarters in Esbjerg, Denmark.
Launched in Q3 2022, Cyan Renewables has ambitious plans to acquire and own a fleet of vessels worth US$1 billion over the next three years, solidifying its position as a key player in the offshore wind industry.
