West of Orkney Windfarm Takes Significant Step Forward with Offshore Consent Applications
The West of Orkney Windfarm, a collaboration between Corio Generation, TotalEnergies, and Renewable Infrastructure Development Group, has reached a milestone by submitting comprehensive offshore consent applications, marking it as the inaugural project from the ScotWind leasing process to attain this stage.
This ambitious offshore windfarm is strategically situated 30 kilometers west of the Orkney Mainland and 25 kilometers north of the Sutherland coast. Having secured development rights to the seabed area from Crown Estate Scotland in the preceding year, the project is set to play a pivotal role in Scotland's renewable energy landscape.
The West of Orkney Windfarm is slated to incorporate up to 125 turbines, all affixed to fixed foundations. With an anticipated capacity of approximately 2 gigawatts (GW), the project is designed to make its initial power delivery by 2029.
This substantial development represents a significant step towards bolstering Scotland's renewable energy infrastructure, aligning with the broader goals of transitioning to clean and sustainable energy sources.
